Tekkeon MyPower ALL Plus MP3450

The Tekkeon MP3450 is about the size of a paperback and weighs just under a pound. It is rated at 50Wh which should be enough to double the life of your laptop on a single charge. Charge time for the MP3450 itself is about 4 hours.

A small switch on the top allows you to select from 5 volts up to 19 volts. This should encompass the vast majority of laptops out there. A total of 9 power tips and a retractable USB cable are included. Additional sized tips are available from Tekkeon's web site if you happen to have an odd sized connection.

The USB output port allows you to simultaneously charge other small portable devices such as cell phones and MP3 players, although this will obviously cut down on the runtime of your laptop.

The MP3450 automatically resets to the lowest voltage setting after a device is connected to prevent overcharging.

If you need even more power the MP3450 has a companion battery pack, the MP3450-10, that can be daisy chained to effectively double the overall capacity.

APC UPB60

The APC UPB60 may be a little heavier than some of its competitors, but in return you don't have to bother lugging around yet another AC adapter. The UPB60 is designed to work with your existing laptop power brick.

Included is a compatibility chart that lists various laptops where you can match up an adapter tip for both the AC adapter and your laptop's DC input socket. You get a good selection of adapter tips and APC will send additional tips if you can't find one that fits.

The APC UPB60 measures a briefcase friendly 10" x 6.5" x 0.65" and weighs 1.83lbs. It can charge in about 3 hours and will extend the runtime of most laptops by about the same amount. The output is rated at 68Wh and output voltages can be switched from 15v, 16v, 18v, 19v and 20v.

To get the longest runtime we found it best to connect the APC UPB60 with your laptop already fully charged. This prevents the UPB60 from having to waste energy charging the laptop's internal battery. As soon as UPB60 is drained it automatically switches off and your laptop's battery takes over. In this configuration a typical 3hr laptop runtime can be extended to over 6hrs.

When not in use, disconnect the cables to prevent the battery from slowly draining.
