Orchard House Cafe - WiFi HotSpot
Orchard House Cafe is one of those laid back, casual little establishments that are in short supply in the city these days. It's right on the corner of 58th Street and 1st Ave but looks like it should be in Vermont or the Berkshires.
Inside you will find hanging pot plants, uncomplicated furniture and a light airy vibe. There is also a small bookcase, newspapers and numerous posters detailing the cafe's long history of live events.
It can seat about 30 with some power outlets along the wall on the right as you enter. For some reason the tables in this section are tiny with barely enough room a standard laptop. If you don't plan on staying for long we suggest a spot on the other side where you'll have more elbow room.
If you do plan on a marathon session be aware that you might be asked to give up your seat if things get busy. A sign on the wall also warns that the wifi may be switched off at peak times to discourage laptop squatters.
The wifi is stable and reasonably fast, but encrypted. You will need to get the password from one of the counter staff.
